Barnsley College is a large General Further Education and Tertiary College serving Barnsley Metropolitan Borough and the surrounding areas in South Yorkshire. The College is the main provider of post 16 education in the Borough. Barnsley Metropolitan Borough has a population of 237,843. The college was rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2010 and has recently been commended during a pilot inspection on the new standards. The College offers an outstanding, broad and flexible range of provision covering all 15 areas of learning including academic and vocational programmes for 14 to 16 year olds, 16 to 18 year olds and adults. Vocational provision is available from Entry Level to Level 7 across all subject sector areas. There is a large apprenticeship provision for both young people and adults offered in 10 out of the 15 subject sector areas.
